Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of John is perhaps the most personal memoir of the life and work of Jesus Christ. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, manages more fully to combine poignant and memorable vignettes with longer teaching passages than do the other gospel writers. Besides being the gospel of love, Robert Yarbrough points out, John also meant his record to be a gospel of testimony. John's gospel could also be called one of invitation. The accounts of the Samaritan woman, Nicodemus, Lazarus, and others end with a call to follow Jesus. They have about them the brisk air of an eyewitness and convey a rush of urgency to convince and convert. With a sure hand on the Greek text and a readable style, Yarbrough walks you through John's account of the last years of Jesus' life. In a sense you, too, become an eyewitness to God's love incarnate.

There is less agreement as to what the integration of faith and learning should look like in pedagogical and cross-disciplinary terms. This volume proposes that faith and learning are interrelated from the start. Discovery of truth within the academic disciplines cultivates discipline-specific wisdom that both accords with all reality and complements the whole counsel of God. Where Wisdom May Be Found brings together a faculty of twenty-seven accomplished voices from across curricula to celebrate each field's capacity for revealing wisdom from all corners of God's creative design. In synthesis, these voices declare the depth and richness of the wisdom and knowledge of God for the educational advancement and holistic equipping of the corporate people of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contends the text of the Noachian deluge narrative categorically underscores all God did to preserve life in spite of the disaster. Despite the picture of devastation that the narrative depicts, the prominent emphasis of the text is on deliverance and redemption, i.e., salvation, not judgment. The focus of the Genesis flood is acutely bent towards God’s salvific rather than punitive purposes. The arc of salvation within the flood narrative can be broken down into two main ideas. Firstly, God’s intention for creation is not thwarted, and, secondly, God commits himself to his intentions of creation. God’s intention for creation can be stated thus: the establishment of order via covenant showing the sanctity of human life and the upholding of all life. This involves, in particular, humanity as his image bearers, including the lex talionis (life-for-life) principle.
