Book excerpt: In the context of his conversation with the Samaritan woman the Johannine Jesus says "the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth" (4:23). In this monograph Benny Thettayil undertakes a detailed exegetical study of the fourth evangelist's understanding of 'worship in Spirit and truth'. Part One is devoted to a detailed exegetical analysis of John 4:19-26 focusing on the relationship between Jews and Samaritans, the meaning of pneuma and aletheia as well as the question whether Jesus reveals himself as the Messiah to the Samaritan woman. In Part Two Thettayil offers an extensive study of the replacement theme in the Fourth Gospel. He studies this issue in connection with the Johannine community and with the presentation of Jesus as the fulfilment of the temple. In his final chapter Thettayil enters into the difficult field of "Johannine Replacement Theology", taking up the challenge of confronting the theological implications of the way the fourth evangelist presents judaism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aletheia Eleutheroo (“uh-LAY-they-uh eh-loo-they-RAH-oh”) is the eagerly anticipated Christian doctrine series from James Maloney. Not your typical textbook, Volume 1, Establishing the Glory of the Godhead, is written with the same conversational tone and humorous wit that Dr. Maloney’s other books are known for. Basic Christian doctrine is not supposed to be boring; it is truth, full of life and the power of God. Our knowledge of God and His Word and Spirit are the basis for a release of the supernatural in our day-to-day activities. And yet in-depth study is difficult for us in our busy lifestyles. What’s a sincere Christian supposed to do? James compiles nearly forty years of study and teaching in Bible colleges around the world and condenses it all into an easy-to-read guidebook, exploring topics such as the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible; hermeneutics and homiletics; the Trinity; the names of God; the attributes of the Father; the dual nature of Jesus Christ, the God-Man; sin and salvation; and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives: He seeks to equip us and turn us into Truth Warriors of the Supernatural. The truth will set you free, and this book can help you know that truth in a greater way than ever before.

How sad that many of the Lord’s people today neither appreciate nor understand this New Covenant. For this reason we have a burden to release some messages on the New Covenant. Even so, the New Covenant is such a comprehensive subject that we cannot exhaust its richness with our limited learning, experience and words. Still, we look to God’s grace and are willing to share with His children the little we have received. Our earnest prayer is that God would enable us to know something of the New Covenant and lead us into its spiritual reality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors in this compilation address the issue of legalism from a variety of angles. John MacArthur shows, first that obedience to God is not an issue of legalism, but an issue of love. In his second chapter, he deals with the inevitable response of people who are confronted with Biblical standards, "Judge not that ye be not judged." Here MacArthur shows what our Lord meant when He said that, and shows what biblical discernment really is, that there is a vast difference between judgmental and holding people accountable to God's standards. Phil Johnson, in his first chapter, deals with Christian liberty. In his second chapter, he takes a critical look at two kinds of legalism, then explores the relationship of Christian love and Christian liberty. Joel Beeke shows that enthusiasm for God's law is not necessarily legalism. One can be zealous without being legalistic. As David wrote: "Oh, how I love Thy Law!" Bruce Bickel explains that legalism is due to a weak understanding of what Christ accomplished on the cross. Jim Elliff makes clear that legalism is an attack on unity within the Body of Christ, particularly local congregations. Ken Talbot helps us to see that legalism is inconsistent with and incompatible with the doctrine of justification by faith alone. He points out that the doctrine of "free will" leads to this dangerous position. Rick Phillips explores the relationship to loving God and obeying His law. Some today believe that love is all that matters, and that the law as a guideline to love is extinct. Then this author shows that Biblical sanctification is the antidote to and the opposite of legalism. Steven J. Lawson shows that legalism is the result of holding to man-made traditions over the truth of God's Word. Second, he points out how dangerous and deadly a thing legalism is and why. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction: What Legalism Is, What Legalism Does - Don Kistler 2. Truth Vs. Tradition - Stephen J. Lawson 3. Love and God's Law - Richard D. Philips 4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed" (Mark 1:35). Jesus taught by his words and actions. He went by himself to pray when he was tired, when faced with upcoming trying events, or when he just wanted to be alone in the presence of his Lord. He gave us guidance about what to pray, how to pray, and why to pray, and was very familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures. Thus, if we want to become Jesus' disciple we should follow his model and invest time and emotional energy into prayer, Bible study, and reflection. <>Nourishment For The Spiritual Pilgrimage provides an aid for those who want to participate in the spiritual pilgrimage of becoming a lifelong disciple of Jesus Christ. It offers insight and support for those who daily want to turn their hearts, souls, and minds to God's will in their lives, as they strive to help in bringing about God's kingdom in this present time. There are countless other devotionals, but hopefully this can offer something that many of the others may not, a specific focus on the concept of discipleship.

Book excerpt: God is calling forth a generation that is passionate for His presence. What does that look like, and how can it be accomplished? Jaeson Ma offers a powerful vision of what God is radically doing in this generation. Students are already being set on fire for God, planting missional communities, praying fervently, and stepping out in faith to see God move in power to reach the lost. It is time to see this manifested on every campus, in every city, and in every nation. Through his own personal stories, student testimonies, and practical biblical teaching, Ma envisions and practically equips student and staff leaders to change themselves and their campuses for Christ. Readers of The Blueprint will receive a clear vision for revival and reformation of society, a specific spiritual DNA (passion for prayer, power evangelism, and planting simple churches), and practical tools to see the vision for reformation become a reality. That's the plan. Now to see the revolution unfold!

This book was released on 2013-11-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOR NEARLY 150 years, the Review and Herald has been the official church paper of the Seventh-day Adventist people. A paper, The Present Truth, was first printed in August 1849. In 1851 the name was changed to Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald. Over the decades the church paper has carried a number of names, and as of 2012 it is simply Adventist Review. Our “church paper”actually preceded, by fourteen years, the official organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1863. From its inception, throughout her life, the messenger of the Lord, Ellen G. White, used the Review and Herald as one of the main avenues of communicating God’s counsels to His remnant people. During that sixty-six year span nearly 2,000 messages by God of direction, reproof, and inspiration were published in the Review and Herald. This present edition has all of her articles, published through 1915, unabridged in four volumes.

The present work is broader in scope than the author's smaller book, Volumes of Praise for a Vanishing God, and unlike the earlier volume, contains full documentation and end-notes, many of which pursue topics of interest that are mentioned only briefly in the text proper. Each chapter of this book ends with a brief list of questions to spur further study and discussion. It is hoped that this book may be useful as a text for a seminary course on congregational singing, a course that the author believes to be great need for the church of the twenty-first century. Special attention is given to the issues raised in the "music wars" of the past fifty years."
