This book was released on 2021-08-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the early part of 2019, our Sunday school lessons centered on the Old Testament prophets, particularly the minor prophets. It was a great challenge to understand their messages and the messages' relevancy for our times. It seemed as if there really were no significant differences in these books of prophecy, as the minor prophets all seemed to be saying the same thing. Of course, there are differences in the messages and ministries of the minor prophets, hence, my attempt to show so. My goal was to summarize the writings and ministries of the minor prophets and show their relevancy for today. This I did through a series of sermons that were initially delivered in the Calvary Baptist Church during the winter of 2019. My goal was to make the teachings of the minor prophets understandable to every segment of our membership. The approach was more inspirational than overly scholarly. Each chapter of the book is provocatively titled and begins with a story or illustration that centers on that particular subject. The intent was to reference something that the reader could relate to and see how the prophet addresses that matter. Of course, not every single detail of the prophet's message is included due to the constraints of time, etc. My hope is that the readers of this book will come to know God better and to have a relationship with him. They will see that in spite of people's imperfections, our God is perfect and faithful toward us. The minor prophets challenge us to live faithfully for God. To the extent I have been able to evoke this kind of response from my readers, I give all glory and honor to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Scripture is God-breathed, but not every portion of it is embraced by Christians with equal vigor. Tribal lists, specific sacrificial obligations, seemingly endless genealogical records, and apparently gratuitous acts of warfare are readily scanned over. But could the minor prophets be added to that list? Should they be? They certainly seem more difficult to locate for many of us than, say, the books of Moses or the Psalms. The writer is clear in his assessment from the start, positing that our relative ignorance of these twelve books, tucked away at the end of the Old Testament, impinges negatively on the Christian believer's walk. Covering a period of around four hundred years, each book is revealed through two contextual settings: the historical and that which was personal to the individual pensmith, before a brief overview reveals the main points of that author's writing. The bulk of each chapter is concerned with the ""Major Key"" of the title. Taking a verse or two from each of the minor prophets, Chris Woodall develops a theme to bring practical application with a potentially positive impact to life as a Christian in the twenty-first century from lessons over two-and-a-half thousand years old. Chris Woodall is former Associate Professor of Dogmatics at North-West University, South Africa. This is his fourth book for Wipf and Stock. The first three, Covenant: the Basis of God's Self-Disclosure (2011), Kingdom: the Expression of God's Rule (2012), and Atonement: God's Means of Effecting Man's Reconciliation (2015) are also available from this publisher and other outlets.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God’s Love and Justice on Display What do we know about the date of Joel’s ministry? How do the warnings of Malachi relate to the Book of Revelation? How did Amos’s profession as a rancher influence his prophetic voice? Drawing on the research of internationally known Bible scholars, this detailed commentary looks at each verse of the final books of the Old Testament. The words of the minor prophets draw us closer to God by teaching us about His enduring love, His judgment to the unfaithful and mercy to the repentant, and His call to restoration for people who have suffered. Covering every book from Hosea through Malachi, this commentary shows the meaning behind these powerful prophecies while reminding us how ordinary people spoke extraordinary truth on behalf of a loving and just God.

This book was released on 2018-11-29 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a literal translation of the 1900+ year old Aramaic Old Testament called the Peshitta. Aramaic was the native language of Jesus and of Israel in the 1st century AD. This volume contains the Minor Prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zecharaih, Malachi. The text translated is the 6th-7th century Codex Ambrosianus- the oldest complete Semitic Old Testament extant. The Peshitta Old Testament was very likely translated from the Hebrew Bible in the 1st century AD in Israel by Christian coverts from Judaism, or possibly Syrian Christians from across Israel's border. Either way, the Peshitta Old and New Testaments together constitute the first Christian Bible. The author has translated and published interlinears of the Aramaic Peshitta Torah, Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, as well as the entire Aramaic Peshitta New Testament and plain English translations of the NT, the Torah, the Psalms & Proverbs. Hardback 6x9" 88 pages in B&W.

Book excerpt: Many see the Minor Prophets as dusty old men who are irrelevant to the 21st Century world. However, on further reading, we encounter real people who were brave enough to challenge the attitudes and behaviours of their generation. Speaking prophetically, they called their nation back to God even when it cost them personally which it usually did. They suffered harassment, rejection and sometimes death but proclaimed their message faithfully. That is why I have called this book ‘everybody hurts’: their message was painful to deliver and painful to receive. As you read this book, you will find out a little more about these men and the context in which they were bringing their message. This includes a synopsis of the political and social situation of the times, as well as a view of the history that formed the backdrop to their words. The message they were given to bring into those situations is summarised and then mapped to our own context. The reader will be left in no doubt that the words of these men are as relevant today as when they were first given. This book contains a prophetic message that speaks right into our own generation which we would do well to heed. Richard Bradbury is based in Beverley, East Yorkshire and leads Beverley Community Church. He also represents the Groundlevel network of churches in Churches Together in England. Married with four children, his primary gifting is as a teacher to the Body of Christ. Book reviews online: PublishedBestsellers website.
