Book excerpt: History is a powerful tool in the hands of politicians, and can be a destructive weapon, as power over the past is the power to decide who is a hero and who is a traitor. Tradition, the remembrance of ancestors, experiences of previous generations are keys that unlock the doors to citizens’ minds, and allow certain ideas, visions and political programs to flourish. However, can history be a proper political weapon during democratization processes when the past is decisively divided from the present? Are the new order and society founded on the basis of some interpretation of the past, or, rather, are they founded only with reference to the imagined future of the nation? This book explores such questions through a detailed description of the use of remembrance policies during political transformations. It discusses how interpretations of the past served the realization of transitional objectives in countries as varied as Chile, Estonia, Georgia, Poland, South Africa and Spain. The book is a unique journey through different parts of the world, different cultures and different political systems, investigating how history was remembered and forgotten by certain democratic leaders. Individual chapters discuss how governments’ remembrance policies were used to create a new citizen, to change a political culture, and to justify a vision of society promoted by new elites. They explain why some sore topics were avoided by politicians, and why sometimes there was no transitional justice or punishment of leaders of the authoritarian state. The book will be of interest to anyone wishing to explore policies of remembrance, democratization, and the role of memory in contemporary societies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God In Competition For Our Love is an inspirational writing that shows Divine Light is God, it is good, it is energy, transferable, mutable, and through Love, has brought manifestation of life as we know it today. Because of this we are in constant competition with the Light, to remain also as God is, as good, and to acquire ultimately, Love. The topics covered within the book show that we are children of the Light, and how that Light works with us, how it is sustained, and retained by the force, in magnitude, through all other life on this earth. The chapters discuss topics such as Love and how God competes for our Love. It also shares opinion and guidance regarding Intimacy, unity, union with man, women and God. Error is discussed as well as the biblical code, the commandment, why punishment and Divine Light. The Water Bearer as the cover page suggests, is a symbol of the Bearer of the biblical word. In its pages, the book also expresses who the bearer is, and how they become or came to be called the Bearer. Another topic discussed is, he Subject as man, past and now. Finally, The Light as energy is discussed, ultimately showing that every human is of one body. Yet we are separate members of that body, bonded in the Light. The writings are enhanced by biblical scriptural messages that further explain or assist in bringing each point accross.

This book was released on 2013-11-28 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early modern period inherited a deeply-ingrained culture of Christian remembrance that proved a platform for creativity in a remarkable variety of forms. From the literature of church ritual to the construction of monuments; from portraiture to the arrangement of domestic interiors; from the development of textual rites to drama of the contemporary stage, the early modern world practiced 'arts of remembrance' at every turn. The turmoils of the Reformation and its aftermath transformed the habits of creating through remembrance. Ritually observed and radically reinvented, remembrance was a focal point of the early modern cultural imagination for an age when beliefs both crossed and divided communities of the faithful. The Arts of Remembrance in Early Modern England maps the new terrain of remembrance in the post-Reformation period, charting its negotiations with the material, the textual and the performative.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one of the oldest and most important sources written on the esoteric teachings of Islam from a Shi'ite perspective. It demonstrates the Qur'anic origins of Sufism and its close relationship with Shi'ism. The book is based mainly on the teachings of the Qur'an, Hadith narrations of Shi'ite Imams, and the teachings of earlier Sufi masters. In this lies the uniqueness, authenticity, and strength of the book. Tuhfah yi-' Abbasi is written in a typical prose style of the Safavid period and is replete with Arabic words and phrases. The difficulty and dryness of the style, however, is properly compensated by timely quotation of Prophetic traditions, narrations of the Shi'ite Imams, and Sufi poetry composed by 'Attar, Rumi, Hafiz, Mansur Hallaj, as well as the author. This work conveys a universal message for all human beings, particularly at a time when Sufism and Shi'ism are misrepresented by pseudo-Sufis and extremist Shi'ite, and misunderstood by many readers in the Muslim world and in the West.

Book excerpt: "I was tired of the violence it takes to become a man." In Remembrance Day, Jonathan Savage recounts his memories of growing up under the shadow of wars fought and carried home by his father and grandfather. He struggles against a history long past that punish generations of a family. While his brother finds refuge in the bottle, Jonathan fights a solitary battle against guilt, blame, and betrayal. He shares his memories with his infant son while sitting quietly by a lake. "We tell stories because the soul depends on them," he says. The story is a journey through scattered memories, of misplaced trust and blossoming love. It is about a childhood home. A ravine and a cemetery. And a war whose echoes reverberate still.
