Book excerpt: A groundbreaking work that overturns the conventional understanding of the Israeli-American relationship and, in doing so, explores how fundamental debates about American identity drive our country's foreign policy. In this bold examination of the Israeli-American relationship, Walter Russell Mead demolishes the myths that both pro-Zionists and anti-Zionists have fostered over the years. He makes clear that Zionism has always been a divisive subject in the American Jewish community, and that American Christians have often been the most fervent supporters of a Jewish state, citing examples from the time of J.P. Morgan and John D. Rockefeller to the present day. He spotlights the almost forgotten story of left-wing support for Zionism, arguing that Eleanor Roosevelt and liberal New Dealers had more influence on President Truman's Israel policy than the American Jewish community--and that Stalin's influence was more decisive than Truman's in Israel's struggle for independence. Mead shows how Israel's rise in the Middle East helped kindle both the modern evangelical movement and the Sunbelt coalition that carried Reagan into the White House. Highlighting the real sources of Israel's support across the American political spectrum, he debunks the legend of the so-called "Israel lobby." And, he describes the aspects of American culture that make it hostile to anti-Semitism and warns about the danger to that tradition of tolerance as our current culture wars heat up. With original analysis and in lively prose, Mead illuminates the American-Israeli relationship, how it affects contemporary politics, and how it will influence the future of both that relationship and American life.

Book excerpt: I have written many books and articles on various topics but since 2013, I have devoted myself fully in writing the interpretation of the Holy Quran in English and with the grace of Allah, I have completed the whole Quran on 29th October 2020 with 84 books. I believe there is a great need in the whole world for the correct interpretation of the Holy Quran to be written in English. Currently, there is a great misunderstanding about Islam among Muslims and non-Muslims globally. The misunderstanding of the meaning of the Holy Quran among Muslims will lead to the wrong practice of Islam which leads to the wrong actions of Muslims. The wrong actions of Muslims will lead to misunderstandings about Islam among Muslims and non-Muslims. The wrong actions of the Muslims have led to many miseries and wars among Muslims. The wrong actions of Muslims have also led to many wars and clashes between Muslims and non-Muslims. In order to avoid miseries, wars and clashes from taking place between the whole mankind in the whole world, the whole mankind in the whole world need to understand the true teaching of Islam. There is no other way for the whole mankind to understand the true teaching of Islam unless the whole mankind is able to read and understand the correct interpretation of the Holy Quran. The whole mankind is only able to read and understand the correct interpretation of the Holy Quran when it is written in the universal language of the world (English). For this very reason I have written the interpretation of the Holy Quran in English. Prof. Nasoha Bin Saabin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borrowing its title from Madeline Harrison Caviness's influential work on the modes of seeing articulated by the twelfth-century cleric Richard of Saint Victor, this interdisciplinary collection brings together the work of thirty scholars from England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. Each author has contributed an original article that engages with ideas formulated in Caviness's wide-ranging scholarship. The historiographic introduction discusses themes in Caviness's publications and their importance for art historical and medieval studies today. The book's thematic matrix groups together essays concerned with: The Material Object, Documentary Reconstruction, Post-Disciplinary Approaches, Multiple Readings, Gender and Reception, Performativity, Text and Image, Collecting and Consumption, and Politics and Ideology. The contributors include curators, art historians, historians, and literary scholars. Their subjects range from medieval stained glass to the nineteenth-century Gothic Revival, the Sachsenspiegel, and Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. Many foreground issues of gender, reception, and textuality, which have permeated Caviness's scholarship. Some also present approaches to sites that have been the subject of important studies by Caviness, including Canterbury, Chartres, Reims, Saint-Denis, Sens, and Troyes. The volume offers a broad range of methodological approaches to key topics in the study of medieval imagery and thus highlights the vitality of the field today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Jews, Christians, and Muslims, we all worship the same God. Yes, our languages are different, Yahweh, God, and Allah, but our roots are in the same place. This book is my understanding of God, people, prophets, concepts, and beings shared by fellow believers (Jews, Christians, and Muslims). The Biblical and Arabic names are used to show that it is the same person or prophet being referenced, example: John the Baptist (Yahya). This book combines scriptures from the Torah, Bible, and Qur'an to explain these people and concepts as well as to show the source of the information being presented. There are forty topics covered. This includes history from creation up until God's last prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as well as predictions of things to come as revealed by the writers of Isaiah, Daniel, and Micah to name a few with verses from the Qur'an. Related verses are grouped together as much as possible to keep the reader from having to skip around. This book was written to make the reader think and understand how much alike we are as believers and to be a reminder of God in these troubled modern times. It is time to forgive wrongs done to each other in the past, learn from each other, and make a peaceful future. This book attempts to resolve disagreements among us believers using the Bible and Qur'an. Some of the disagreements include the following: is Jesus the Messiah, why are angels considered female, and God was tired after the creation of the world? It concludes with some nonsectarian prayers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Larry has come to understand that there are two basic ways that the Bible can be taught. The first is the most prevalent. It consists of telling the Christian the things that he or she should be doing and the things that he or she should not be doing, sometimes accompanied with relatively meaningless ways of doing or not doing these things. The second way to teach the Bible is to teach it by revealing what God says in the Bible, which we call expository preaching or teaching. I am very much in favor of expository teaching. If a Christian is taught the Bible, not taught about the Bible, but actually taught to understand God and God's desire to live in and through us in a fulfilling meaningful way, the Christian will be able to determine, for him- or herself, what to do or what not to do, as it becomes a part of the person's life, rather than just something added to the person's life. If living the vibrant Christian life through knowing God and His Word becomes the desire and goal of the Christian life, learned from the Holy Spirit through God's Word, that inner force becomes an external force far more useful to God than being told what to do or what not to do. That desire to teach Christians in a way to build that inner force of God through knowing Him has been mine for many years. This book contains Bible studies to help develop that inner force that is only by grace.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On my search for finding the meaning of life, I made the most amazing discovery, which is what this book is all about. I discovered how to remember who we truly are and how to reconnect to God, Creator of all that is, the source of all life. Life is a journey. As we travel along the road, discovering life, we realize that there is no road map for life, just a moment-by-moment discovery of selfdiscovering who we are and, more excitingly, who we want to be or become. This book has taken me over ten years to write since I had a powerful, prophetic dream in August 2005. I have been on a personal journey of discovery and of immense growth since then, resulting in all the beliefs that I had since a young girl to be turned upside down. If anybody had told me what I know today ten years ago, I would have argued with them and told them that they were being misled and would have considered it heresy. An age-old parable talks about an old beggar who was sitting on a box at the side of the road. When a stranger came walking past, the beggar asked the stranger for some spare cash. The stranger replied that he had no money to give him but then asked the beggar what was inside the box that he was sitting on. The beggar replied that it was an old box that he had been sitting on for as long as he could remember and that he had never looked inside as it was surely empty. The stranger encouraged him to open the box and to look inside, which the beggar duly did, only to find that the box was filled with gold. All these years, this beggar has been begging for money and eating scraps of food or any morsel that he could find, while if he had only looked inside, he would have realized that he was extremely wealthy. The first few chapters of this book are written with an extremely religious tone due to the fact that I was writing from my belief at that time. However, this is not a religious book. You will notice how my beliefs change as the book unfolds. This book has been written from my belief, which I believe God revealed to me through many hours of studying the Bible, praying, and listening to the still small voice within. I had many hours of quiet time with God. I am sharing information with you that I have gathered on my personal journey, but what you do with this information is up to you, as you always have a choice.

Book excerpt: What is alchemy? Alchemy means altering the frequencies of thought to allow us to change ourselves, change how we perceive and interact with the world and begin to experience a new sort of consciousness. Unlike any other programme, Mastering Alchemy doesn't seek to change readers' perceptions merely by speaking to their minds but instead offers a series of deeply felt experiences, each one building on the preceding one to transform a participant from the inside out, giving them a new, happy and optimistic platform for experiencing the world. This book is so much more than words on the page: energetics are embedded into each lesson and readers will be able to feel the Teachers' presence and wisdom as they read the text. This is a Course in Miracles for the 21st century, reaching far beyond that earlier programme by incorporating the significant leap in human consciousness that has been occurring since the 1980s, and also the active participation of the Teachers of Light. This unique book offers readers a set of energy tools of unparalleled power and a new way of life as revealed by the Teachers of Light, whose guidance has been channelled by Jim Self and Roxane Burnet of the hugely popular online Mastering Alchemy course. While giving free access to a wealth of normally paid-for content (including videos on the meditations and exercises and even recordings of the Teachers of Light themselves), this book stands alone as a self-contained programme offering step-by-step techniques for changing our way of being and opening up our higher consciousness.

Book excerpt: Gustav Friedrich Oehler was an Old Testament scholar and professor at Tübingen in Germany. At this time, he was among the foremost proponents of theological conservatism with regard to the Old Testament, rejecting the rationalism of Schleiermacher and the liberal school arising from his work. For Oehler, the Old Testament is an account of real history and divine revelation, rather than a product of mere human development. This two volume set, published after Oehler's death by his son in 1874, contains the contents of Oehler's three decades of lectures on his area of expertise. This early work of Biblical Theology explains the progressive revelation of divine truths from the first chapters of Genesis through the end of the Old Testament. It contains both a history of God's people, and an examination of the theological convictions of the Old Testament authors as moved by the Spirit.
